Company Culture Continues to Define Resolution Medical: Interview With Culture Leader Barb Wagner

At Resolution Medical, our unique company culture means so much to our Associates, customers, and community. That’s why we continue to nurture this unique aspect of our business as we grow. Earlier this summer, we brought on Barb Wagner, a seasoned HR leader, to further shape our culture as an HRIS Specialist and Culture Champion!
We interviewed Barb to share her philosophy on company culture and how Resolution Medical stands apart from the crowd.
What do you think about the term “Company Culture” and how does it grow within an organization? Barb Wagner: Culture is something that is difficult to gauge until you get into a company and experience it for yourself. I firmly believe culture is a defining characteristic in a company’s identity. It is everyone’s responsibility to nurture it, so it continues to be an integral part of the fabric of Resolution Medical.
One of the greatest responsibilities of HR is to create an environment where everyone can succeed and where they feel cared for and valued.
What excites you about working with Resolution Medical? Barb Wagner: The most amazing attribute of Resolution Medical is the intense focus on culture: It feels like a nimble, family-owned business while having the band-width and engineering horsepower to support a significant and healthy development and manufacturing portfolio. It has a high energy environment that is inherent in a fast-growing, thriving company. Through the interview process it was easy to see that the staff was exuberant to share their thoughts about the company and what makes it tick. They have an unbelievable retention rate which speaks so highly about the leadership and Associates!
What do you see as the greatest strength of Resolution Medical?
Barb Wagner: I think our strengths are two-fold in that we are able to respond quickly and in a transparent manner to customer needs and execute on our commitments thanks to our efficient, proactive communication and deep bench of experienced Associates. Secondly, throughout the organization, there is deep caring for our Associates and for our customer’s overall experience.
Which HR initiatives do you see affecting the future of Resolution Medical?
Barb Wagner: The most important things going forward will be definitive initiatives to maintain retention and our culture as we evolve and grow. These are the things that make people want to stay somewhere. When thinking about ideas like succession planning, we want to know how to move forward together and help Associates reach their long-term goals.
For example, we may have an operator who has never had any sort of management experience. But in the next five years, they'd like to be in a lead role managing teams, imparting knowledge, and mentoring others. We can offer a career path by creating a custom training and mentoring program for them, ultimately helping them achieve their desired career goal. As long as we have committed, passionate Associates (which we already do), the sky's the limit!
How do you see the culture of Resolution Medical progressing in the next 5 years?
Barb Wagner: People here are on fire about culture, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. We are figuring out how to keep that family-owned feel as we grow. I just see that growth happening because we have all the talent and systems in place to be successful. One of the main reasons I was brought on was to maintain culture. This speaks volumes to the leadership team and the future of the organization. We will do what we need to do to keep our culture thriving.
Which HR and company culture trends get you most excited about the future?
Barb Wagner: With tight labor markets and easy mobility, we will need to keep listening to our Associates and what is important to them. Additionally we will keep emphasizing flexibility, work-life balance, a sense of making a difference, of belonging and being engaged.
Resolution Medical’s work directly improves and saves people’s lives so it is easy to know that we make a difference, which I think is super important! But along with that, we have really great people who love to work hard and play hard. Our staff is our greatest asset and we never want to lose sight of that!!
