Resolution Medical Announces Qosina as Distribution Partner for Sterile Lattice Swabs

Device exhibits significant flexibility and has a longer shelf life than the prior sterilizable version

Wednesday, October 7, 2020, Minneapolis, MN: To help address the need for easy-to-use, pre-sterilized nasopharyngeal (NP) swabs for COVID-19 testing, Resolution Medical, an FDA registered, in vitro diagnostic and medical device manufacturer, is announcing the launch of a new sterile, individually packaged and labeled swab made using the Carbon DLS™ 3D printing process. The sterile Resolution Medical Lattice Swab demonstrates substantial flexibility and has an improved shelf life compared to an autoclavable version of the Lattice Swab that has been available since April and widely sold to U.S. hospitals.

Additionally, Resolution Medical is announcing that Qosina Corp., a global supplier of OEM single-use medical components, has signed on as a distribution partner for the Lattice Swab. To request complimentary samples or to place an order with Qosina, customers can visit the Lattice Swab product page.

The sterile Lattice Swab has an extended shelf life of six months and has been measured to navigate the nasal passageway with seven times less force compared with traditional flocked NP swabs. Its clinically assessed design employs a soft, hollow lattice structure that promotes specimen collection efficiency and comfort for patients. Made in the USA, the sterile swabs are individually pouched, labeled, boxed (1,000 per box), and ethylene oxide (EtO) sterilized.

“With the capacity to scale production to over 1 million swabs per week, we’re thrilled to partner with Carbon and now Qosina to make large-scale Lattice Swab production and distribution a reality,” said Shawn Patterson, Founder and President of Resolution Medical. “Launching our sterile product is an exciting step that highlights our commitment to a reliable, effective, user- and patient-friendly product that can help hospitals increase testing capacity.”

“As a leader in swabs provided to the medical industry, we are pleased to partner with Resolution Medical to add this to our product offering,” said Scott Herskovitz, President and CEO of Qosina Corp. “Its creative design meets the growing demand from our customers for high quality COVID-19 testing swabs. Our mission is to provide the best customer experience possible by helping our customers find, order, and receive quality medical components quickly and accurately, and this partnership is the perfect fit to support our mission.”

Due to NP swab shortages during the COVID-19 pandemic, Resolution Medical and Carbon initially partnered to design a Lattice Swab sterilizable by autoclaving, which was launched in April. The product went from idea to market in just 20 days and was clinically assessed at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center (BIDMC) in Boston on factors including usability, sample collection sufficiency, and PCR compatibility. The Lattice Swab is now the most widely studied 3D-printed swab; in addition to BIDMC's assessment, it has been evaluated in nearly 400 patients at Stanford University under an IRB study.

Carbon M2 printers are used to produce the Lattice Swab using Keystone Industries’ KeySplint Soft® Clear material, which is FDA cleared and indicated for the fabrication of orthodontic and dental appliances in the US, Canada, EU, Australia, and New Zealand. The Lattice Swab is classified by the FDA as a Class I 510(k) Exempt in vitro diagnostic medical device.
